Little Farmers

Here we are folks, the last few days before Christmas. I hope you’ve all enjoyed the build up as much as we do at Croots – decorating the tree, the Christmas carol concerts, the mince pies and of course the turkey lunches!

First of all, I need to say a few thank you’s –  A massive thank you to all of you who have trusted us with your Christmas food order. It really does mean a lot to us all here at Croots Farm Shop,  a huge thank you also to all the team at Croots, for working so hard to produce and select everything you need for that Christmas feast and of course a massive thanks to all our lovely loyal customers who are the lifeblood of our farm shop. You are supporting a family business and jobs for around 40 local people as well as many small local producers and we really appreciate your continued support.

As well as working on delivering Christmas, we are also planning ahead for 2025, both in terms of our range of products we offer and of course all the events that we do, more information on that in the New Year.

Back on the farm, all our ewes are hopefully now in lamb for the Spring and hopefully we have three foals on the way too, fingers crossed! We are also keeping everything crossed that we don’t have snow this Christmas to make it a bit easier for everyone involved!

If you are cooking this Christmas, make sure you plan well.. its my turn to cook this year too, we are going with a traditional bronze whole turkey, but whatever you are having, a top tip from me is to take the bird or joint out of the fridge at least an hour before cooking to ensure it cooks evenly and allow time once its cooked for the meat to rest after cooking -that way it will be more juice and tender. For everyone who has ordered Christmas meat from us, you will get a little extra gift with a card in your bag with cooking instructions too, so hope that helps!
