It’s been wonderful to finally welcome customers back into the café! We obviously managed to open for some of last year, but it was a limited time and so its been great to redecorate and now get the tables and chairs back out again and hear the chatter once more. We’ve had help from Sam our local joiner and Amanda a local Interior Designer to spruce up the café before reopening and I hope you’ll agree that they did a fabulous job. I had a great time, looking through old family photos so that we could tell the story of the Yates/Croots family over the years on the walls of our newly decorated café. Our new menu features both old favourites and new dishes too, all with a focus on cooking amazing fresh food using both Croots homemade products together with foods from our wonderful local farmers and producers
I’m also delighted to say that we will be back showing the Shire Horses again soon. We have entered into a few shows over the summer, some of which are open to the public and some not, but we have had the blacksmith in preparing their feet for the show season ahead and started lots of grooming as they have just been out in muddy fields for a long time now!! Our new Shire foal ‘Jamies Lad’ is growing nicely and can often be found galloping around the field next to his Mum ‘Edwina’.
Our lambing season came to a close a few weeks ago and overall we had a pleasing result. We did have to have two caesareans and had great help from our local vets for those, as unfortunately the lambs were just too big to get out, but other than that we were fairly problem free thank goodness.
On the farm, we are now hoping for a mixture of sunshine and rain to get the grass to grow ready for cutting in July. We are also busy planning our Open Farm Sunday event on 27th June where we will be having various displays again including sheep shearing, blacksmithing, horse and cart rides and lots more besides. We hope to see you there..
Back in the farm shop, we are preparing for Fathers Day and of course for the BBQ season ahead. We will have a few gift ideas for you and some café specials too and for the BBQ, Dave and his team have extended the 3 for £12 offer with some new products for you to try
