As the end of the summer holidays fade and we come towards the end of the horse shows season, it’s a good time to reflect on what’s gone well on and what we need to work on.
In the last month on the farm, we have weaned the lambs off the ewes and started feeding haylage bales which were planned for winter feed but like many other farmers, we have no choice with no grass. We’ve also been completing some emergency fencing around the farm to keep the sheep in as they remain desperately short of grass and go searching for whatever they can find. It will take a few weeks of steady rain before the field turn from a brown colour to something resembling a healthy green again. I’ve also been learning how to reverse the sheep trailer, so I can move the sheep around, something that the rest of the family has found highly amusing!!
We have also weaned our first foal Justin, so when you come up the drive, you will now see Grace and her foal Marlee. Justin is tucked away in the stables getting used to being on his own, but don’t worry, he is still getting plenty of attention!
August 15th was a mixed emotions day too as we took our horses to the local Ashbourne show, but we also remembered Steve as it was five years to the day since his passing.
As we celebrated 18 years of being in business at the end of June, we’ve also been doing some much-needed maintenance around the business, with new flooring in our kitchens and a new oil tank and shortly some drainage work on the yard to stop the water running down the hill and washing away the stone in the car park!
In the Farm Shop we are very focused on Christmas, working on the online Christmas order system, our hamper range, our Taste of Christmas event, grotto and space planning! More info to come very soon!
