Kay’s February Blog

With Spring hopefully around the corner (as I write we’ve had all kinds of wintery weather this last week!) our thoughts are turning to lambing and the start of the showing season on the farm. We don’t actually start lambing until the end of March (timed so the kids can help during the school holidays!!) but this month will see the ewes getting scanned so that we know how many they are expecting. We’ve also been busy practicing with the horses we plan to show at the National Shire Horse Show on 9th & 10th March, a young male colt and a senior mare and of course Jamie in his Young Handler class.

Looking ahead to this year, we have been working hard on organising our regular Open Farm event on 9th June and a number of new events such as a Family Dog Show and a Party in the Paddock in August – more details to follow very soon! In our shop & café, we are also planning more Butchery Demonstration evenings and also a number of afternoon workshops and these dates will also be announced very soon! We put out a survey online and in the shop & café to get your feedback on which events you would like to see most, and that has been very helpful, so thank you very much if you participated in this.

We will be doing another customer survey later this month and this is to do with the farm shop where we are seeking your thoughts on a number of ideas and thoughts we have to improve our offer so we would be very grateful if you would take a few minutes out to give us your thoughts here too.

We’ve been busy in our Production Kitchen, working on a couple of new pie recipes which will be launched in the next couple of weeks, so look out for those and we are also working on some new cakes such as our yummy Red Velvet cake which is now in store.

From a personal point of view, February is a very busy month. My daughter Nicole turned 18 at the beginning of the month and we had lots of family celebrations, she is studying Business at South Derbyshire College now and Jamie also has his birthday later this month too! He finishes school this year and is planning to go to Broomfield college to study Agriculture in September!

Hope to see you soon!
